Babies Names?

Has anyone named their child Myra in the last 20 years or so

Babies Names?
Myra is still a reasonably popular name in America - in the 1990's it was the 804th most popular female name. It is steadily declining in popularity though, as it was 303rd in the 1900's.
Reply:Maybe some parents have, but a nice name is Crystal.
Reply:I think not a lot because it has connotations with Myra Hindley.

Why not try something similar like myrna, moyra, mira, etc
Reply:yes i think so!! its soo beautiful does it sound like maria?? ut myra is well nice! i love it!! plz name it
Reply:I think that the name Myra has understandably fallen out of fashion in the UK. Information for those not in the UK, Myra Hindley and Ian Brady were very notorious child killers in the 1960's. Her obituary is here:

When enough time has passed that the general public don't remember what happened to those poor children then I'm sure Myra will be "acceptable" again.
Reply:YES- There is a girlin my year called Myra Louise!
Reply:The last time Myra ranked in the most popular 1000 baby names was 2003 at #983. see this website....

Reply:I wouldn't have thought there would be many Myra's in U.K due to Myra Hindley.

Reply:Check out this site (you may have to reload a couple times to get it to work right): http://www.babynamewizard.com/namevoyage...

You can input any name and it will give you the ranking out of the top 1000 names, going back to 1880. Myra ranked 945 out of 1000 in the year 2003, it hit a top of 235 ranked name during the 1940s. Hope that helps.
Reply:WOULDNT IMAGINE SO.
Reply:My friend called her daughter Myra. She was beautiful and born in the lovely summer of 1979.

Unfortunately, she developed some strange tendencies, and was stoned to death in the playground by an angry mob in Year 5 .

Co-incidence? Maybe, but I would recommend an alternative name.

Maxine perhaps?
Reply:i wouldent think so
Reply:I don't know, but I like that name!
Reply:Well it's probably about as popular as Adolf in the UK these days, but I recon that some people who have kids will be too young to remember Myra Hindley so it may become popular again.
Reply:havent heard that name before but it is a lovely name you should choose it
Reply:My son-in-law remarried after my daughter divorced him, and he called his daughter from that relationship Myra. She is 3 years old

Reply:Don't choose that name, myra hindley!! Thats what the child will get called at school, or if people ask you the name you chose for a child and you said Myra, they would just think of her, its like calling a child hitler, you just don't to it. Try alternatives lile mia
