How are babies given their names?

The midwife holds up a piece of paper with names on, and the baby points to the name it wants. Lol jk, the parents pick-didn't you know that?

How are babies given their names?
When the parents open the package from the stork, there is a bit of paper, kind of like in a fortune cookie, and this has the baby's name on it. There are sometimes problems when the piece of paper flies out of the wrapper during delivery. This is when parents are stuck for a name, and don't know what to put on the birth certificate.
Reply:We took my husbands middle name and gave that name to our son as a first name...and took my fathers middle name and gave that to our son as his middle name.

For our daughter we agreed on a beautiful 1st name b4 she was born, and gave her my moms name as her middle name.

hope that makes sense!! lol
Reply:The parents think about how they want their child to be recognized... and then go from there.

Maybe they want something unique, traditional, family-oriented, etc.

Or they come on Yahoo Answers, and just ask everyone to choose for them :)

Reply:We had two tentative names and when our two sons were born we would gauge their personality and pick which one we liked best. But we also choose at least one of their names after someone who is very special to us.
Reply:Well, the parents think of the names they really like and decide which one they both love? You should already know this lol.
Reply:We waited until our baby was born and evaluated her personallity, and applied a name accordingly.
Reply:I dunno but that's a good question!

I never really put any thought into that.
