Why do some people give their unsuspecting newborn babies such incredibly bizarre names like Moon Unit?

It's terrible! We should have some sort of law against it like they do in Germany.

Why do some people give their unsuspecting newborn babies such incredibly bizarre names like Moon Unit?
Because their child is speical to them and they want their kid to be as special and as diverse as possible.
Reply:Recently a store refused to make a B-Day cake for somebody's son who was named Adolph Hitler.

I know somebody who gave her baby the middle name Ocean (it a girl)

I guess they wanna be different. THe trend of giving kids names of places used to seem weird. and now everybody does it and it seems kind of cute. If you think about it, Apple does sound strange but not

Cherry. People have named kids after flowers forever. Rose, Iris,

Amaryllis,Violet, and so on.
Reply:They think they're being creative

No, I'm serious

Just look at the celebrity baby-names

Also, I think such parents are thinking in a very two-dimentional way. As in, they don't try to put that name even into their perspective, as in try to imagine - oh, if I had a name like that, what would my certain life experiences be like?

I mean, Zuma Nesta is only not going ot be bullied because his mama is Gwen Stefani, and even there - who knows!

And can you honestly imagine a lawyer or a doctor - Zuma Nesta?

Or Apple, for that matter?

Yes, parents think/hope their kids ill end up in showbiz as well, I guess, except that in most cases that won't happen. That's what stage names are for, in case they do make it.
Reply:I guess because they want their kid to be remembered. Or they think they're being unique. There's unique and then there's pushing it.
Reply:I saw a question yesterday when someone wanted to know if "Believe Britney" was a good name.

*Believe as in hope, Britney as in the idol, Britney Spears*
Reply:I think Renesme is incredibly bizarre. My niece seems hell bent on naming her daughter this. She is doing it because she has some sort of unhealthy obsession with the Twilight series. I believe she'd be called a "Twi-hard" or something.

I think people just want to be different. They want their child to stand out from the crowd with a unique name. Personally, I don't like it. I think it is ridiculous. The poor child! Moon Unit is just dreadful.
Reply:There was actually a judge in Australia I think that stopped a couple from giving their kid a crazy name. I think it was something like Bloody Monday or something stupid.

People do things like that because they think it is a form of expression for them and don't think of the impact it will have on their kids lives. I hate my name but many people think it's pretty. But I wonder how many of those people would name their kids my name lol.

When I have kids I wont put them through that lol
Reply:moon unit hahaha

don't be surprised if a celebrity uses that name in the future.

because they will think that they are being "creative" or some junk like that.

meanwhile they are cursing their child with a lifetime of being made fun of everywhere.
Reply:I am not sure maybe because they want there cild to get attention?? I personaly think that it is not fair to the children. There going to have to go through the rest of there life with people making fun of there names
Reply:Moon Unit? I sincerely hope you're kidding!
Reply:because child protection agencies do not have a ruling on it.
Reply:Moon Unit 0.0?That's terrible!

People go waaaayyy too far with the unique name thing.God,if they want their kid to stand out so much, why don't they just make them wear a flashing light on their head everyday.Same effect.
Reply:self-centered egotism

"Just look how creative I am with the name ______________ (fill the blank with the most bizarre combination you can think of).

Hollywood types can not only get away with it, this is sometimes expected of celebrities as proof of their artistic natures as actors/song writers, etc.

Ordinary folks seem to do this to show the world that they are more creative than their hum-drum little lives appear. I think they're the same people who force their daughters into beauty pageants.
Reply:for a very few people, that is truly their families personalities/values/ideals and the names work and suit...

The rest just think that they are being original and unique without knowing what either truly are or how to go about it!

I think that we need a custom where parents give their kids a "use name"... then when children turn 18 they get to chose a first name of their own and the "use name" turns into a middle name or gets dropped completely! Who's with me :-)
Reply:I have no idea. I am calling my children Russian names, some people may think these are odd, but in russia they are perfectly normal. Moon Unit? ridiculous name!!! as is apple, zuma and things like that!!weird!!

good luckxx

xxxxxxx
