When will the traditional names for babies come back in?

You do know there are trends in the names people give their babies and many are obviously from certain eras?

When will the traditional names for babies come back in?
You can name your baby whatever you wish. If you like traditional names then go with one. Don't get caught up in the trends.
Reply:I think traditional names are still "in". My husband and I named our daughter, Grace Olivia. Our son is Brady David.

We wanted a "normal" name for our kids but not incredibly common. I didn't want our kids to be one of 5 "Jennifer"s or "Aiden"s
Reply:I agree with you completly! Names like Rylee and Makayla are just awful. People think that in order to be unique they have to give their kid a weird name like Brooklyn, or Blaze or use a traditional name with an unusual spelling Errickah or Jeniphur, or make something up like Dillyanne (I know it's awful!) or as Anna Nicole did with Dannielynn. People fail to realize that these children all have to grow up one day and live with these weird names with weird spellings. Sheesh!
Reply:Never. Since we're more globally connected, I think people want their kids to be unique (that may even mean using a "traditional name") . My theory is look at the top 12 finalists in American Idol - Sanjaya, Lakisha, Blake, Melinda, Chris, Phil (uggh), forget the rest. Only a few "traditional" names in there. Now that we see the mix of cultures, and all the naming options, we wont go back.
Reply:Yes thats notable but you can name your child anything you want. I wouldn't name my child somethign that is popular during your time period. Name it the traditional name you want. Who cares about whats in and whats out
Reply:Hello, Be a rebel and start the ball rolling ! I miss the old traditional names. This "new age" trend is too far out for me !
Reply:I agree completely. Want traditional names not names based on soap opera characters or a whim.
Reply:i think there are a lot of the older names coming back now ie.daisy and jack what do you mean by traditional?
Reply:Yeah, and I have noticed just some wierd, pretentious names given to kids lately...on the t-ball field the other day, their was alittle boy named mckellar, I don't like it at all, it sounds so un-masculain and prissed, whatever happened to john?
Reply:This is largely a girl-naming issue. Boys haven't ever had the same level of problem.

There are so few things left to hold our society together. My last baby, almost 20 years ago, was named Margaret. We call her Maggie for personal reasons, but she could choose if she would from a dozen alternatives. Brittany and Ashley are not among them.
Reply:Not sure but I can't wait until they do!! I am due in 10 days and my husband and I have decided to go the traditional route in regards to naming our son, no need for all these stupid new versions - my pet hate now is all the old names being spelt incorrectly to make them new and 'cool'!
Reply:i have never liked those "traditional" names so i named my kids unique and meaningful names.
Reply:You mean like Olive, Dorothy, Margaret, Helen, Ruth, Mildred, Frances, Doris, Maria, Barbara, Shirley, Ethel, Clara, Nancy, Carol, Joyce, Jean, Sandra, Caroline, Donna, Judy, Deborah, Brenda, Cheryl, Kimberly, Beverly, Tammy, Lori, Julie, Jennifer, Tracy? Just speaking of girls names of course.

Hopefully never for some of them, because many of them are butt ugly!! Some are timeless like Elizabeth, Catherine etc, but Mildred and Olive? Ewww! Leave them back in the 20th century please!
Reply:Well, because of a long family tradition that we were completely unwilling to break, we have a Robert Darrell, named after his daddy and my daddy! I think it's a perfectly respectable name, and the initials R.D. before our last name could be just as professional as his name, if he chose to go that route. Why would people want their kids initials to be something like CAR, SHT, ODD, FUN is beyond me. I think it's just as important as not naming your child Raspberry Sherbert or something like that. And to think at one time I didn't like my name Elizabeth. What would I have thought if my parents had named me something like Sunnie Daie or something? Geez! You may think it's cute now to name your child off the wall names, but I think as they grow and realize what you did when naming them, they will be mad! I know I would be...
Reply:when parents relize the names are as the old ones, to many were made fun of or tend to follow kin or bible stories or even ball players now the cartoon names.
Reply:I love traditional names. I live in KY where the big trend for boys names are names like Hunter, Trucker, Gunner, Jackson, Storm, Tanner, etc. I did not fall into that trend. My 2 sons will have to live with there names long after that trend has been put out of it's misery, so I decided to give them traditional bible names, Daniel and Caleb. It's like this, some names are timeless but do you really want your child to be stuck with a trendy name. Look at what the hippies did to there children, Rainbow, sunshine, star, come one.
Reply:never.. those days are over. i had a friend who named their baby Memphis..
Reply:Traditional names ARE back in. The top popular names right now are Victorian names - you can't get more traditional than that!

If you mean traditional as in - "boring names" - then that's sad. Why do you want your kid to be in a class with 5 other "Ashleys" or something like that - so you kid has to be called: "Ashley H. or Ashley S." - LAMO!!!
Reply:"When will the traditional names for babies come back in?"

They haven't gone anywhere, its just the majority of people prefer new, uncommon or unique names now.

Its not the end of an era, i'm 17 and my name is Samantha May, that's a traditional name. I have siblings who's names are Kimberley (Kim for short), Lauren (Lou for short) and Jack and they are all younger than me.
Reply:Their called traditional names for a reason --- -- their timeless. Fads come and fads go.... I always use this rule of thumb.... Pick the name as you ,yourself would want to be called. Try it out ( on the streets so to speak and see what reaction you get).

Use common sense, It's ok to name your kid what you want but use proper spelling and pronunciation --- You only make it harder on the child and YOU the parent sound illiterate!
Reply:now-a-days anything goes! even traditional names.
Reply:They are always in. It's just some people like to give their child a more unique and different name and while others go completely overboard.
Reply:I think people just have to start naming kids traditional names. It "catches on" that way.
Reply:We named our two girls Jane Ann and Alice May. That's pretty traditional, isn't it? Perhaps we've started something. I can't stand all these names that I can't say or spell. People always ask me how to spell Jane and when I say J A N E, they say..."oh, how nice that it isn't some weird spelling!".
Reply:They ARE back in, for those of us who have the nerve to go against the made-up, half-my-name-half-his-name, trendy names tide and stick to names people know how to spell and pronounce.

They'll REALLY be back in if more of us think about what we're saddling our poor babies with and choose names that they can wear proudly for decades...

I think "Traditional" is ALWAYS in fashion...
Reply:Daniel is right!

We gave our kids traditional names. I'm not so trendy that I'm going to name my kids Apple or Buzz Lightyear, come on!

Just imagine your sons pediatrican...is his name some bizarre name? What about your favorite college professor? Think of the names of world leaders, scientists and great inventers. Any Neptune Jr.'s or a Banjo in that mix?

Intelligent people do not make thier kids go through life with bizarre names, you want you kid to have the best shot in life. Naming them strange names is just a way to inflate your own ego, and having kids should get that ego in check for sure.
Reply:They are

Reply:Traditional names will come back when people start using them again. So many parents are giving their children such off the wall names that it actually works against them when going for a job.
Reply:Enjoy the fact that they aren't so popular! I can rest assured that my girls won't be in school with 5 other Ann's and Mary's. They have beautiful, classic names, are named after their wonderful aunt's (who weren't named after my great-aunts) and they won't spend their lives spelling out their names for people.
Reply:Go Gertrude.

Go Hilga %26amp; Inga.

Go Rupert.
Reply:'Traditional' Names, can still be odd.
