Whats your opinion on people having a trend on calling there babies quite odd names now?

I am all up for uniqueness but I'm sorry when you hear on the tv and stuff about celebs naming their babies the most ridiculous names. I see it happening a lot often now as if its a trend. Just I would rather have a normal name and not being named after a mythical creature or after a fruit.

Whats your opinion on people having a trend on calling there babies quite odd names now?
I tend to like different names but not down right stupid. My friend's hubby is a nurse %26amp; he works in the pediatric unit, you wouldn't believe the names some people come up with. Scenic Sunday was born a couple days ago, talk about ridiculous.
Reply:I prefer traditional names. Names that stand the test of time.

You can always tell what generation a person is from by their name. I went to school with lots of Mindys, Lindas, Loris (spelled many different ways) and Susans and my kids know scores of Alyssas, Ashleys and Kaitlyns (their moms tend to be around the same age as I am). Right now we seem to be encountering a lot of little Madisons and Jaysons.

Both of my daughters have traditional names which can be cut down into a nickname or used in full when they achieve whatever level of success they attain. Their names will look good no matter where they are posted.
Reply:lol well yeah same. like bronx mowgli is taking it a bit too far. but i love unique names. like juliette and cheyenne for girls and nolan and tristan for boys. super unique but not to a level where it is no longer cute. come on, next up it's gunna be Grape or Lettuce. apple was just silly but i actuali think its kinda cute now. i love names like shiloh, harlow, zahara, pax, and violet, and suri but alotta celeb babies have names tht are just too crazy.
Reply:What I can't stand is the normal name spelled all wrong. Like Michelle spelled Mishele, or Christina spelled Krysteena. It is annoying as all hell, looks stupid, and will definitely not help landing a job in this tough economy. I think it's selfish on the parent's part to only think of "I'm so brilliant I can think of a name no one else has!" and not consider the ramifications for their child.
Reply:i dont really think that it is anybody elses business.

i see everyone commenting on unique names yet i see nobody commenting on names like "wong tein" or "gusperjulatr"...you know, culteral names.

i personally think that traditional names suck.

names like "abby, heather, troy, mike, dan, katherine" etc.
Reply:I've been recently thinking the same thing. I think it started from Angelina Jolie kids! I think its just popular because some celebrity started it and the rest followed as well as average people. But hey at least pregnant teens will name their kids normal names because Jamie Lynn named her baby Maddie so the teen mom generation will have normal named kids.
Reply:NO JOKE!! When I was 16 I worked this camp.... this women was pregnant with triplets. She was going to name them.....April, May and June if they were girls, and Huey, Dwey, and Louie for the boys. SHE HAD THE GIRLS!!! Her other kids names, Mick and Bianca, Sonny and Cher! I AM TOTALLY SERIOUS!!!! I took care of Sonny and Cher! I think the whole idea of being different is great.........BUT there are limits. I grew up with a VERY popular name, and I tried to give my kids different names at the time.....Jack, Emma and Brooke.... you see how far that went :)
Reply:I understand wanting them to be unique...but there are definitely limits to "unique". My son has an uncommon name, but it's a real name, not something I pulled out of the sky or that he will have to answer to a la Apple, Bronx, Zuma Nesta Rock....
Reply:And don't forget going with a "top ten" name!

All of the "en" names are insanely popular--Jaden, Brayden, Aiden, Kaden....

Yick.

And I am sorry...but "Bronx Mowgli"?

Poor child is doomed...
Reply:im female and my name is joaquin ( wahkeen)

my children have different names but not out of this world. they just not common names.
Reply:I agree with you.....i for one wont name my child something that people will have no idea how to say or spell.
